I’m in the process of researching next year’s winter sojourn, a 3-week motor biking holiday around Bali.
Although I technically won’t be on a motorbike. I’m requesting an automatic Honda Scoopy scooter with hello kitty stickers on it.
Anyway it got me reminiscing.
Bali caught me by surprise. It was a destination that I’d long written off as for package tourists, not real travellers.
Our first day, spent walking the streets of trendy Seminyak didn’t do much to change my preconceived ideas. It was like a hot and humid North Fitzroy, great for Instagram filtered photos but not so good for Indonesian food.
But once we got out of the south we were pleasantly surprised. The traffic cleared, green countryside appeared and we started to genuinely like Bali.
We only spent 5 days tripping around the eastern most tip of the island, staying in Candidasa and Amed but we saw enough to warrant a more extensive trip.
And with it being only a 6-hour flight it’s technically only a day jaunt away.
